Perennials for the changing climate
The Okanagan Valley has one of the most unique climates in British Columbia. Its hot summers and moderate winters make it a gardener's dream. However, as our climate changes, we are experiencing hotter and drier summers and winters with low amounts of precipitation, meaning we need to adapt to ever-changing conditions.
Watering restrictions have become a common occurrence in the summer months, and it is time to start being water-wise. Wallflower, hostas, lavender, iris and carex grass are just a few plants you will find marked with a Water Smart or water droplet icon.
While planning your garden, it is important to make note of the specific exposure of your garden and choose plants for those areas that will grow with minimal irrigation.
